Transient operation of next generation alkaline water electrolyzers? Subproject: Construction and investigation of a 50 kW AWE stack for pressure and transient load operation
Hydrogen production
Shell and thyssenkrupp nucera are building one of the largest green hydrogen plants in Europe, 'Holland Hydrogen 1', a 200 MW alkaline water electrolysis (AWE) offshore wind turbine. Although this is an important milestone on the way to the use of technology for the reduction of carbon emissions, Shell, thyssenkrupp nucera, TU Delft and the Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt in the framework of the WinHy project are focusing on the technology development for AWEs next Generation, which is operated with Offshore Wind Power, with the aim of reducing the cost of hydrogen by 20% and facilitating the use of larger green hydrogen plants. The thyssenkrupp nucera subproject of WinHy will focus on the development and qualification of a 50 kW AWE stack designed for pressure and transient operation with realistic wind profiles.
