Innovation Project

smartVessel

Integration of fiber-based sensors during the production of hydrogen tanks for intelligent condition monitoring, life expectancy and assessment

Infrastructure project

The goal of the research projects smartVessel is to reduce the maintenance costs of hydrogen tanks by at least 50% and to safely use the entire life of these safety-relevant components of at least 20 - 30 years through the integration of online damage monitoring systems. A key component of the system are the CF towpregs with integrated sensors to be developed by Kümpers. These towpregs represent a technical innovation that is not available on the market in this form. As part of the project, Kümpers is developing new towpregs that are suitable for the production of hydrogen tanks using MFW. Kümpers is developing and constructively implementing the concept for the economical production of CF towpregs.
