The special feature of the RWE solution is that the waste heat generated during electrolysis is not released into the environment but is stored in a neighboring gas pressure control plant for process purposes. This avoids losses and makes the plant the most efficient power to gas plant in Germany. The conversion of gas back into electricity is just as efficient. The block heating power plant used here does not only supply electricity to the public network, but also the resulting heat in the Ibbenbüren district heating network.
