Hydrogen production
On the Friesenheimer Island in Mannheim, the central hydrogen high-pressure filling center "H2ub" with a capacity of 3 tons of H2 per day is being built. It will be the heart and backbone of all mobility applications in the overall H2Rivers project. Air Liquide will build the compression plant as a partner in the consortium. The H2ub combines the water requirements of many individual projects, thus enabling security of supply under economical conditions. The green hydrogen is produced in large-scale production plants in the neighboring BASF plant in Ludwigshafen. In H2ub, the hydrogen is condensed for use in fuel cells and condensed for filling in tanks. The H2ub will be used to supply both existing and future H2 mobility applications in the region with hydrogen. For the necessary transport of hydrogen from the central filling center to the gas stations, a total of 12 hydrogen tank cars were procured, which can be used as additional mobile storage tanks.
