Innovation Project
NIP II - ELEKTRA
Mobility
For the first time, a fully electric and hybrid drive concept, consisting of fuel cells and accumulators, based on an inland thrust concept and the dynamic interaction of the energy sources with regard to the maximum range of the canal inland tugboat is being researched and optimized. The fuel cell technology is used for the hydrogen-based base load energy supply of the drive train. Peak loads are covered by accumulators. This is a unique selling point for Germany as a technology location. The project will demonstrate the feasibility of hydropower as an energy storage device with its specific characteristics and advantages in shipping.
