Innovation Project

Joint project: BIC H2

Hydrogen for large-scale applications? Sub-project: LINDE

Mobility

Since 2011, Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (RVK) has been using hydrogen-powered fuel cell hybrid buses in regular scheduled services. As part of the "Zero Emission" company project, in the course of which the RVK strives for a completely emissions-free public transport, an increasingly sustainable and emission-free public transport (ÖPNV) should be realized. With this funding project and the associated purchase of 30 fuel cell hybrid buses as well as the construction of two H2 filling stations, this innovative and environmentally friendly technology is to be used in a large part of the company's traffic area. The goal is to reduce harmful emissions such as CO2, NOx, fine dust and noise. It should be demonstrated that the technology has reached a level of development that allows the reliable deployment of large fleets. The H2 filling stations needed for this were built together with a consortium consisting of Linde, New NP, ETC and the Forschungszentrum Jülich at the RVK depots in Meckenheim and Wermelskirchen.
