Emmerich Region Hydrogen Network

The long-distance pipeline operator Thyssengas from Dortmund and the municipal utilities in Emmerich are working together on the hydrogen supply for the Lower Rhine region. The process also involves BEW (Bocholter Energie- und Wasserversorgung), which is committed to a hydrogen connection for the Bocholt industrial park in the Mussum district. A specific transport connection has now been identified together: an existing Thyssengas natural gas pipeline between Emmerich and Bocholt can be converted for hydrogen transport. This is intended to create an H2 supply perspective for local industrial and medium-sized companies as well as municipal heat planning until 2030 and thus planning and investment security. The necessary quantities of hydrogen are to be imported from the Netherlands and also generated using wind power on the North Sea coast or via electrolyzers in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony.
