Trailblazer

Construction of a 20 MW electrolyzer for the production of green hydrogen

Hydrogen production

Air Liquide is building “Trailblazer”, a 20 MW electrolyzer to produce renewable hydrogen, at its Oberhausen site. The Trailblazer will be connected to Air Liquide's existing hydrogen pipeline to supply key industries and emission-free mobility on the Rhine and Ruhr with renewable hydrogen. The technological solution for the project was developed as part of the partnership between Air Liquide and Siemens Energy announced in February 2021. By 2023, both partners will build a 20 MW electrolysis plant that will produce 2,900 tons of renewable hydrogen per year as well as renewable oxygen. In a second phase, Air Liquide plans to increase the capacity of the plant to 30 MW.
