smartVessel

Integration of fibre-based sensors during the production of hydrogen tanks for intelligent condition monitoring, lifetime prediction and assessment

Infrastructure project

The aim of the smartVessel research project is to reduce the maintenance costs of hydrogen tanks by at least 50 % and to safely utilise the entire service life of these safety-relevant components of at least 20 - 30 years by integrating an online damage monitoring system. An essential component of the system are the CF towpregs with integrated sensors to be developed by Kümpers. These towpregs represent a technical innovation that is not available on the market in this form. As part of the project, Kümpers is developing new towpregs that are suitable for the production of hydrogen tanks using MFW. At Kümpers, the concept for the economic production of CF towpregs is being developed and constructively implemented.
