Innovation Project
NIP II - Hy-Lab
Development and establishment of two independent laboratories for hydrogen quality measurement according to international standards
Mobility
Hydrogen-powered fuel cell vehicles enable emission-free electromobility with long ranges and short refuelling times. However, hydrogen can contain impurities that damage the fuel cells. In order to be able to guarantee the required service life of fuel cells, the hydrogen delivery quality at filling stations must therefore be checked regularly. The permissible limit values for impurities are defined in the international standard ISO 14687-2. In Germany, however, there is currently no independent laboratory that can carry out these demanding analyses.
For this reason, the analytical laboratories of the Zentrum für BrennstoffzelenTechnik GmbH (ZBT) and the Zentrum für Sonnenenergie- und Wasserstoff-Forschung Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) are to be expanded and upgraded within the framework of the project "Hy-Lab - Development and Establishment of Two Independent Laboratories for Hydrogen Quality Measurement in Accordance with International Standards", and in future will be available as independent samplers and laboratories for quality monitoring at petrol stations throughout Germany and Europe.
