Fuel cell vehicles mobilise the Steinfurt district
Mobility
The district of Steinfurt wants to be a hydrogen region that uses its locally generated renewable energies to produce green hydrogen and power fuel cells in the future. The city of Rheine, as the largest municipality in the district of Steinfurt, also wants to set a good example here and further convert its municipal fleet to renewable energies. Already 5 years ago, 4 electric cars were purchased. These have replaced 4 cars with diesel engines for short distances. The acquisition of a vehicle with hydrogen technology for medium and long distances is the logical next step towards environmentally friendly and sustainable mobility. The city of Rheine also wants to show that hydrogen technology is not a niche product, but a realistic alternative for companies and private individuals. With regard to the reduction of greenhouse gases, the purchase of a vehicle with hydrogen technology represents a further step in the Master Plan 100% Climate Protection and the municipal targets set therein for the year 2050. The fuel cell vehicle will be available as a service vehicle in the fleet pool. The handling will be demonstrated in a short training session when the vehicle is collected and presented to all interested parties in the office. Refuelling will take place at the H2 filling station in Steinfurt planned for 2020. The filling station will meet the NIP requirement to use renewable sources. By 2023, there will be two more H2 refuelling stations (public + more for buses), which will be supplied 100% with green hydrogen from renewable energy sources from various producer locations in the Steinfurt district and mobile distribution via truck.
