For a competitive and at the same time climate-neutral industrial location, fundamentally new production processes and procedures as well as improved infrastructures and framework conditions are indispensable. In order to shape this process of change together with companies, science and the state government, the state of North Rhine-Westphalia launched the IN4climate.NRW initiative in 2019. As a working platform for companies in the energy-intensive basic materials industry (especially steel and non-ferrous metals, chemicals and petrochemicals, cement and lime, paper, glass and ceramics), science and politics, IN4climate.NRW has since been providing significant impetus for the necessary transformation processes in industry - and not only in NRW, but also across federal states and in international cooperation projects. Since 2022, the initiative has been managed by the Industry & Production department of NRW.Energy4Climate. Hydrogen has been one of the focal topics of the initiative from the very beginning. The focus is on the role of industry in the ramp-up of the hydrogen economy in NRW and the development of suitable political framework conditions.

The headquarters of IN4climate.NRW and the regional office Metropole Ruhr of NRW.Energy4Climate are located in the Science Park in Gelsenkirchen.
