Innovation Project

H2HoWi

Development of a hydrogen infrastructure with existing natural gas assets

Buildings/Quarters

Holzwickede is becoming a pioneer: in the municipality near Dortmund, 100 per cent green hydrogen (H2) is now flowing through a pipeline of the public natural gas supply for the first time. The distribution network operator Westnetz GmbH has converted part of the natural gas network for the transport of H2. Three companies use it to generate part of the required space heating. The research and development project "H2HoWi", which is unique in Germany, is accompanied by the German Fuel Institute Freiberg and creates important conditions for the success of the energy transition on site. The project is supported by the regional grid owner Energienetze Holzwickede.
