Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy IEG

The Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy IEG conducts research at seven locations in the fields of integrated energy infrastructures, geothermal energy and sector coupling for a successful energy transition. The Fraunhofer Research Institution for Energy Infrastructures and Geothermal Energy IEG develops ideas, technologies and strategies for the next phase of the transformation of energy systems and sees itself as an independent thought leader for politics, business, regulation and society. By founding the Fraunhofer IEG, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is making a significant contribution to opening up the markets for the application of geothermal energy systems, the storage of energy sources and technologies for coupling the energy sectors of heat, electricity and transport in an even more targeted manner.

Key topics are hydrogen, energy infrastructures and sector coupling, heat mining and storage, borehole technologies, geo-resources and the development of the necessary technology components, energy technology and CO2 capture.
