Climate protection model region Sauerland

The energy system of the future is being created in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Arnsberg. Westenergie is launching the climate protection model region Sauerland with partners from business, science and politics. The common goal is to make Arnsberg climate-neutral through the use of modern hydrogen technology. In the coming years, industry, small and medium-sized enterprises and the mobility sector are to enter into the use of hydrogen. The core of the Sauerland climate protection model region is an eleven-kilometre-long natural gas pipeline that will be converted to run on hydrogen and thus also serve as an energy storage facility.
