Wilo H2 Powerplant

As part of the energy transition, Wilo, in collaboration with Schneider Electric, has built an innovative hydrogen plant, known as the H2Powerplant, at Wilopark Dortmund. The goal is to efficiently store renewable energy and use it to provide the site with an energy supply that is as climate-neutral as possible.

The plant combines a photovoltaic system with an electrolyzer, a hydrogen storage tank, and a fuel cell. Green hydrogen is produced and stored using renewable electricity. The storage tank, which is approximately 29.8 meters long, holds up to 520 kg of hydrogen, while the plant can produce up to 10 metric tons annually. The resulting waste heat is also utilized, thereby improving the system’s efficiency.

Initially, the H2Powerplant will primarily serve as an emergency power and backup power supply. In the long term, it is intended to enable Wilopark to be self-sufficient in energy for up to two days.
