Smart Factory Metelen

The Smart Business Park Metelen aims to operate the office buildings of Westnetz GmbH almost entirely self-sufficiently in terms of electricity. Two photovoltaic systems on the roof convert sunlight into green electricity, and surplus energy is stored in batteries for short-term use to cover demand on days with little sunshine or at night. An electrolyzer is used for long-term, large-volume storage: hydrogen generated using green electricity can be stored in bottles and converted back into electricity in a fuel cell as needed, ensuring self-sufficiency at all times.
