Recycling of Hydride Storage, Subproject: Vacuum Metallurgical Processing of EoL Hydrogen Storage Alloys

Recycling of hydride storage and sorption materials for sustainable hydrogen storage, sub-project: Vacuum metallurgical processing of EoL hydrogen storage alloys

Infrastructure project

Hydride storage is a proven technology for storing hydrogen. The recycling of the storage and the hydrogenatable special alloys contained therein has not yet been achieved in a sustainable manner. At the time of application, landfilling is mandatory once the maximum period of use has been reached. The overarching goal of this project is to develop a further use (second-use application) and material recycling of the special alloy or storage. This comprehensive recycling has an impact on the availability of raw materials, environmental compatibility, the cost of the storage alloy and thus, in the medium term, on the widespread implementation of the technology.
