Hydropower generation offshore using offshore wind energy as an island solution
Hydrogen production
For the energy transition to be successful, sustainable hydropower is a key pillar of the energy system. Due to limited expansion capacity of wind turbines and photovoltaic systems on land, importing energy sources based on hydropower is being considered. On the other hand, offshore hydrogen production with high full-load hours offers the opportunity to cover the entire value chain at a national level. However, offshore hydrogen production entails challenges with regard to operating conditions at sea, maintenance, hydrogen transport and logistics, installation and costs. This project aims to develop a technically and economically optimized concept for offshore hydrogen production, which will form the basis for the construction and operation of such plants. The concept should answer all possible questions regarding operation, logistics and plant design and serve as a blueprint for a quick and large-scale implementation in subsequent, concrete projects.
