Decentralized production of green hydrogen from solid waste

Hydrogen production

The decentralized production of green hydrogen from solid waste using thermo-chemical gasification is technically possible, but to date has rarely been implemented economically. This joint project aims to solve these problems and to be able to combine the resulting technologies in compact container plants. The basis of the project is, on the one hand, the existing gasification technology from BtX, which has been proven to produce a very clean product gas, and the Ferro-Hy-Tunnel (FHT) hydrogen separation technology for the separation of pure hydrogen from mixed gases, which has already been tested in the laboratory but has not yet been scaled up to a technical scale. The project partner for this is the AHT, which works as a license holder of the FHT technology and the energy-efficient implementation. The aim of this project is to maximize the hydrogen content in wood gas with the help of an additional water gas shift stage, to guarantee the necessary gas purity for the following processes and to enable separation from the product gas stream in order to be able to gain economically high-purity hydrogen from pelletized residual wood. Depending on the gas quality, one kilogram of pure hydrogen can then be obtained from 15 - 20 kg of wood. If successfully implemented, a mobile container solution will be available which will make it possible to provide decentralized green hydrogen production using the almost universally available standard fuel, in this case wood pellets made from fine residues.
