HyTech

Dark fermentation of biomass is a sustainable and resource-efficient way of producing green hydrogen. By spatially separating the biogas process into hydrolysis, acidogenesis and acetogenesis in the first stage and subsequent methanogenesis in the second stage, the energy yield of the process is increased and the versatile energy carrier hydrogen is produced. As part of the research project, two pilot plants will be built and compared with each other in several test series. The aim of the project is to identify the optimal process parameters and reactor concepts for the two-stage biohydrogen process. Through an economic analysis and the testing of different organic residues, the technology is being brought closer to large-scale implementation.
