HydrOxy
PEM electrolyzer in Duisburg
Hydrogen production
As part of the HydrOxy Hub Walsum project, a PEM electrolyzer with a capacity of around 150 MW will be developed, built and operated in Duisburg-Walsum by 2027. The plant will be integrated into an existing renewable energy power plant and supported by a battery. The project will generate renewable hydrogen and heat. The renewable hydrogen will be supplied mostly via a pipeline to Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe, but also to other industries and the transport sector. The heat generated will be fed into a district heating system. The capacity is to be expanded to 300 MW by 2029 and to 520 MW by 2031.
