Testing of hydroserration in the gas distribution network and for heat generation

In the fall of 2022, the hydrogen heat island in Linnich successfully started a trial operation. Gelsenwasser Energienetze operates a 130-meter-long distribution network here exclusively with hydrogen and heats with it a warehouse and workshop hall as well as an office building. During the planning phase, the focus was on a detailed safety concept and an H2-ready analysis of the structures and operating materials in the gas pipe network and the gas installation. This small-scale hydrogen heat network completely replaces the existing gas infrastructure. The hydrogen condensing boilers, which a company from Münsterland has developed and installed, are new. The Gelsenwasser project team is particularly testing the interaction between the network and the house installation, including the gas systems, for functionality and compatibility.
