H2Innovate

The hydrogen economy requires high-performance electrolysers that are not only technically sound but can also be manufactured cost-effectively. H2Innovate is pursuing precisely this goal: A novel cell frame for high-pressure PEM electrolysers is being further developed so that it can be manufactured using injection molding in the future. This is expected to significantly reduce manufacturing costs and enable the industrial production of large electrolyzer stacks.
The basis for this is a stack concept developed and patented at Westphalian University of Applied Sciences that features hydraulic single-cell compression. This enables reliable operation at high hydrogen pressures, high temperatures, and high current densities. Together, Westfälische Hochschule, AstroPlast Kunststofftechnik GmbH & Co. KG, and ProPuls GmbH are further developing the existing plastic cell frame so that it can be cost-effectively manufactured using injection molding in the future. The newly developed cell frames will then be integrated into a high-pressure electrolyzer stack and extensively tested under conditions similar to those found in industrial settings.
