Hubs, Clusters & Networks

Climate Port Gelsenkirchen

The initiative, which was launched in mid-2021 by companies from Gelsenkirchen city port and the surrounding area with the support of the city, the science park and the North Westphalia Chamber of Industry and Commerce, now includes 17 companies from a wide range of industries. The common goal is a rapid transformation to climate neutrality through our own actions and, where this is not enough, a joint commitment to creating suitable framework conditions. The pilot project is the decarbonization of process heat in energy-intensive companies. To decarbonize process heat, the initiative is calling for a connection to the future hydrogen backbone and is in discussions with the relevant network operators and potential suppliers. The initiative is also examining the construction of a large-scale electrolyzer for local hydrogen production near the climate port. In the area of mobility, the initiative is currently determining the need for and feasibility of a hydrogen filling station for refueling trucks.
