Ammonia cracker demonstration plant in Scholven

Uniper and thyssenkrupp Uhde entered into a strategic partnership in spring 2025 to bring a key technology for the hydrogen economy to industrial maturity. The goal is to develop a large-scale ammonia cracker, a plant that converts ammonia into hydrogen and nitrogen. As one of the world's first demonstration plants, it will split 28 tons of ammonia per day, which corresponds to a hydrogen production of about four tons per day. Construction of the plant has begun and commissioning is planned for the end of 2026.
